After the whirlwind of your daughter getting engaged, you’re probably finally starting to consider what you’ll actually wear to her wedding. Finding the perfect dress to celebrate is important; this is a huge day in your life, and you want to feel your absolute best for your daughter’s big day without stealing the spotlight. To help you start on this journey, we’re sharing some of our favorite tips for finding your MOB dress.
Some moms get so preoccupied in helping their daughters that they don’t prioritize the search for their own dress. You’ll likely need time for fittings, so be sure to get started on your search once the bride chooses a date and venue.
Before you set foot in a store, know your budget. Obviously if you find a dress you really love you can go slightly over budget, but you don’t want to go somewhere, try on a dress, and fall in love only to find out it’s out of your price range! Have a general number in mind before you start looking.
Pull from the Wedding’s Color Palette
While you don’t want to look like a bridesmaid, you still want to complement the wedding. Try to find a dress in a color that compliments the wedding, blending in without being too matchy-matchy. For example, if your daughter’s bridesmaid dresses are light blue, find something navy so everything looks cohesive in pictures.
Make Shopping Fun
Turn your shopping into a fun excursion! This way, you’re more relaxed, and you’ll have a great memory of the day. Bring a friend so you have an honest opinion on dresses you try on, and go get brunch or lunch somewhere to make it a fun memory.
Talk to the Mother of the Groom
This one matters, because the Mother of the Groom will likely be looking at somewhat similar colors as you. When you pick a dress, tell her what you’re wearing so you don’t show up in the same exact color (or, tragically, the same dress).
